MOVETRITION combines physical activity with nutrition education to empower and activate our youth to make healthy choices for their mind, body and spirit! Our goal is to get kids moving and educate them about eating healthy and provide them with the tools to be health advocate for their families, friends and communities!
Early childhood Movetrition is a 6 week, twice a week program designed for preschool children ages 3-5 to get them excited and enthusiastic about eating fruits and vegetables. For 50 minutes, children are highly engaged in interactive activities that teach motor skills such as running, jumping and balance.
Using costumes and animation, healthy food comes to life right before their eyes! Each week children are introduced to a new character that teaches them about the benefits of fruits and vegetables and engages them in songs and games. Children are encouraged to move, think and be creative while learning how to live a healthy lifestyle!
Now more than ever children are at risk for obesity and diabetes. These diseases are running rampant through our community and every year is affecting younger and younger generations. Learning about healthy eating and being physically active at a young age can dramatically reduce the chances of living an unhealthy lifestyle in their adult lives!
School-age Movetrition targets elementary age children through high school students and is uniquely customized for specific age groups. The Movetrition lessons include: choosing healthy drinks, learning how to create a nutritious breakfast, healthy shopping, the benefits of fruit and vegetables, healthy recipes, and much more. Movetrition is tailored to fit the needs of each particular site or school!

Results
Generations’ MOVETRITION program was delivered at two schools in Gilroy, CA, as part of Proyecto Movimiento in Summer 2008. The results were significant. At Brownell Middle School, 54 students in grades 4-8 were taught three MOVETRITION lessons over three weeks. According to the data, boys in this program increased their nutritional knowledge by 36%, while girls showed a 24% increase in nutritional knowledge. Students were engaged in physical activity while increasing their nutritional knowledge and working together to accomplish team activities.
“Movetrition has been an excellent component to our Pre-K curriculum. The children love learning about eating healthy and exercising. The songs, activities, games and books have all been age appropriate. The children really connected and share their wisdom and knowledge they gained from the program. The costumes were marvelous and the animation was contagious to all the children. I also love the fact that parents had recipes, nutrition values of food and important information about serving size. Excellent, Excellent program, Love it.”
