Healthy Aging > Successful Aging Training

“We are excited to partner with Kaiser San Jose in bringing the unique training to professionals and students alike. We plan to spread Spring Chickens throughout the valley.”
- Silvia Merschon, Program Director
Generations Community Wellness is proud to announce a newly designed physical activity and health education training for anyone called to work with older adults.
Successful Aging Training is a 2-day training program in physical activity and nutrition education based on Generations evidence-based signature program Spring Chickens.
Spring Chickens is a physical activity curriculum designed for older adults with a broad range of abilities. Emphasis is placed on strength, agility, balance, flexibility, endurance, and health education for successful aging.
Training participants receive a complete manual with nutrition lessons and handouts, sample classes, data assessment tools, marketing tips and Certificate of Completion. Trainees are prepared to safely and properly teach Spring Chickens classes upon completion of the two-day training.
Thanks to Kaiser Permanente San Jose, Generations held a low-cost training at San Jose State University in January 2010. Here is what participants had to say about the training:
I loved the diversity of the group and how to allow for shyness in a positive way. I learned how to not feel intimidated in presentations in front of participants I don't know."
- Training Participant
"I learned how to modify exercises for different levels of fitness and the importance of games and fun activities to keep interest high levels up. I also learned the importance of knowing your group and scanning the group to make sure everyone is doing an exercise properly."
- Carolyn Hoppes
"I liked that we were taught what each exercise measures and that we had the opportunity to 1. Do the exercise to understand how it feels physically and 2. Teach the exercise to a class and receive feedback."
- Monica Gloria
Results
- 100% of participants reported that the training they participated in was great (76%) or good (24%)
