Generations Community Wellness

Generations Community Wellness (Generations), founded in September 2003, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Sunnyvale, California currently serving Northern California. Since inception, Generations has reached out across the ages and socio-economic status to provide physical activity and nutritional education, opportunity, and accessibility to individuals, communities and organizations.

Generations Community Wellness mission is to provide creative wellness solutions through community partnerships. Generations provides physical activity and nutritional education programs to economically disadvantaged youth, families, and older adults. Our goal is to empower entire communities to create healthy, sustainable change in their environments.

Generations Impact Areas

  • Healthy Youth - Engaging, empowering and activating our youth with a unique nutrition curriculum taught through fun, interactive physical activity
  • Healthy Communities - Creating, developing, and implementing policies and programs to support health and overall wellness in the communities where we play, work and live
  • Healthy Aging - Delivering community fitness and nutrition education trainings to current and future instructors, as well as teaching exercise classes to older adults in senior centers, residential facilities and community centers

Generations is supported by donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government grants, as well fee for service contracts with schools, agencies, and corporations.

Team

Dan McClure, M.A.
Founder, CEO

Having spent 19 + years in the fitness industry, and earning Masters of Arts degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University, Dan was experiencing “success” in the fitness industry, but he knew something was missing. In 2003, Dan heard a whisper in his heart to “serve the underserved.” Dan set out to take the experience and education he’d been blessed with and share it with vulnerable communities. Following his heart, he left a successful career and founded Generations Community Wellness.

As Generations begins it’s seventh year, Dan is proud to have reached thousands of vulnerable communities with his message of healthy living and has ever-greater visions for the expansion of the organization.

In addition to leading Generations, Dan serves on many boards and committees as well as teaches as an adjunct professor at San Jose State University.

Aby Ryan
Chief Operating Officer

Aby Ryan joined the Generations team in 2008 as a Program Director, and quickly climbed the ranks to earn the title of Chief Operating Officer. Drawn to Generations by its commitment to improving the health of all generations – kids, families and older adults - Ryan is a huge supporter of the “active living” movement.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of San Diego, Aby’s first career was as a tennis professional and collegiate coach at Santa Clara University. Upon retirement from tennis, Aby began a career in the public sector with various community benefit organizations. Her experience focused on youth and workforce development, social and policy issues impacting the lives of girls and women, and curriculum development. Aby specializes in physical activity curriculum design and seeks to develop innovative strategies to create opportunities for physical activity and improve access to healthy foods in all communities. With a proven history of program and community development, Aby has had success in securing grant funds to help foster her organizations' missions.

Silvia Merschon
Programs Manager

In 2006, Silvia joined the Generations Team as a Senior Fitness Instructor, and she currently oversees all of the Aging and Youth programs at Generations. Silvia earned her degree in Physical Fitness for Seniors and Toddlers at Wingate Institute in Israel. With 15 years of experience as a Physical Fitness Specialist, Silvia has taught in senior and community centers, as well as day-care and special needs facilities. Silvia also directed Learning Through Movement: a special fitness program for toddlers in Community Centers.

Silvia believes that movement equals life. She has always been active in sports such as volleyball, swimming, yoga, cycling, aerobics, and kickboxing.

Danielle Gallet
Youth Programs Coordinator

Danielle joined Generations in 2008 as a Senior Fitness instructor was quickly promoted the Youth Programs Coordinator. Danielle leads the Girls on the Move program and Early Childhood Movetrition programs. Danielle brings new energy and fresh ideas to the organization. As a former gymnast and swimmer, she is truly passionate about bettering the health of her community through movement and nutrition education.

Danielle recently graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education. While completing her degree, she interned with Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s Education Department in San Jose. Prior to joining Generations, Danielle worked on The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Team In Training” campaign, gaining valuable experience working on a number of grassroots projects in the Marketing Department.

In her spare time Danielle enjoys spending time outdoors, running, hiking, riding her horses and spending time with her family.

Trinh Nguyen
Aging Programs Coordinator

Trinh joined the Generations team in 2008 as a Program Coordinator for the Spring Chickens and Walk this Way programs.

Trinh recently received his Master’s Degree at San Jose State in exercise physiology with an emphasis on older adults. Trinh’s thesis is on the functional capacity improvement of older adults participating in the Spring Chicken exercise program. In both his work and school experience, Trinh has had the privilege of working with a variety of different populations ranging from athletic, able-body persons to disabled, frail and injured individuals.

During his leisure time Trinh enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, golf, and tennis.

Trudy Wentworth
Office Manager

Trudy joined the Generations team in 2006. Trudy takes on multiple roles as bookkeeper, human resources, and office manager. Her plan is to be Program Director (Spokeperson) for Generations Donate Your Fat program.

Trudy has been enriched by a variety of careers, ranging from performing as a costumed character, a bank manager, a stay-at-home mom, to her current position as Office Manager and Donate Your Fat Blogger for Generations Community Wellness. Trudy has fallen in love with the humor, truth, and simplicity of Generations. Trudy is a 45-year-old happily married mom of 3 funny kids. Her hobbies include laughter, walking, reading, eating fruits and vegetables and enjoying the benefits of increased fiber.
